“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:58
The wind here has been terrible. Not just bad, but terrible. We have had wind storms the last 4 weekends and set record wind speeds for the MatSu valley of on 2 of those weekends! With that wind comes a lot of damage, the pictures from around town are CRAZY! There is a hole in the Walmart roof, trampolines are everywhere, trailers have blown over, our dumpster blew over three separate times. At church anything outside has been blown around, the ladder, fire pits, traffic cones, door mats, and so many shingles have all been blown out of place.
The wind has gotten to the point where you begin to question if you should even try to fix anything, or just let it go. We had the shingles repaired/replaced a couple weekends ago, just to have a bunch more fly off this last weekend. The repairs at this point just feel like they are in vain. The same can be felt sometimes in our own lives.
We are all called to “the work of The Lord”. That looks different for all of us. For many of us that can begin to feel monotonous. Working with God on your life can sometimes feel like cleaning up the yard every weekend. Working with other people can often feel like flipping a dumpster back up to just have it tip over again and again. The “work of The Lord” that we are called to can sometimes feel like repairing shingles week after week after week, oftentimes to the point where it feels like it is all in vain.
BUT… We are promised that it is not. If we remain “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord”. It may see like there is no change to us, or to the people we are working with, but we don’t see the whole picture. We are promised that our work is indeed not in vain. We just see the outside, but God looks at the heart and mind. We are called to keep picking up, to keep repairing, and to keep doing the work of The Lord, knowing that some day we WILL see the fruits of our labors, be it in this life or the next.
